Retail Sales/Data Entry Clerk

Responsibilities include assisting customers, processing cash register, and credit card transactions, pricing merchandise, re-stocking shelves and other related work.

Scope of Work
Assists visitors to the museum in the admissions and gift shop areas cashiering and performing operational duties.

This position also performs clerical data entry and recordkeeping duties and other related work as assigned.

Primary Duties:
Data Entry
• Balance daily receipts and complete end of week revenue reports.
• Prepare charge sales report at the end of the week.
• Data entry for daily sales summary and new merchandise.
• Filing and other data entry as needed.
• Daily reconciliation of revenue receipts and reports
• Check in, price and stock merchandise, process invoices
• Daily, weekly, monthly data entry of shop sales and admissions
• Maintain vendor files
• Assist with bi-annual inventory count
• Assist with other tasks as deemed appropriate

Gift Shop/Admissions
• Receives visitors, provides orientation to the facility and general tourist information.
• Engage the visitor and provide exceptional customer service.
• Ring up sales and promote merchandise .
• Answer questions from visitors about the museum and activities and attractions on the island.
• Performs cashiering duties, closing out registers and credit card machines and creating daily report.
• Responsibilities include assisting customers, pricing merchandise, re-stocking shelves and other related work.
• Maintain a clean shop with attractive displays and product placement.
• Operate cash register and credit card machine to complete sale
Closing Duties:
• Complete Daily Gift Shop Report
• Count cash and remove from drawer
• Close out cash register and balance with Daily Gift Shop Report
• Close out credit card machine and create report and balance with Daily Gift Shop Report
• Secure cash and reports

Other Duties
• Maintains attractive shop appearance, restocking merchandise as needed
• Answers telephone and routes calls or takes messages as appropriate
• Keep shop clean and orderly
• Advise Gift Shop Manager when stock of an item is low
• Be available to answer customer’s questions about visitor attractions on the island
• Becomes familiar with and supports the Sugar Museum’s mission, exhibits and programs
• Is cross trained to operate museum front desk
• Assist with maintaining public areas tidy, which includes replenishing restroom supplies.
• Other duties as may be assigned by Gift Shop Manager or Museum Director

• Employees are required to attend monthly staff meetings. Staff meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month between 8:30 & 9:30 am.

• Minimum 1 year data entry experience with Excel.
• Proficient typing skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge of relevant software packages.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Attention to detail
• Excellent customer service & communication skills with all levels of customer contact
• Ability to operate cash register and process credit card transactions
• Prior cashiering experience a plus
• Available to work on weekends and other shifts for vacation and sick leave
• Carry or lift up to 10 lbs.
• Able to bend, squat or stand for periods of time
• Function as a team member
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Be receptive to suggestions or concepts
