Pacific Primate Sanctuary

Pacific Primate Sanctuary is a federally-authorized nonprofit captive wildlife conservation organization, providing refuge and rehabilitation to threatened and critically endangered monkeys. Some are ex-pets, others come from research laboratories or tourist attractions. Most are in a state of distress when they arrive. Many of the primates we receive have lived their whole lives in windowless rooms and have never seen the natural world. Often they have been abused, forced to live in isolation, and have been deprived of the most basic care. They often have been treated like objects, commodities to be sold or used, and then discarded. We say— "their suffering stops here". Since 1984, the Sanctuary has provided natural living environments, organically grown fresh fruits, vegetables, forage, and exceptionally dedicated care to South and Central American monkeys in need of refuge. They are housed socially and are not on exhibit. Pacific Primate Sanctuary is run entirely by volunteers. A staff of 15 trained volunteers and 2-3 interns care for the small tree-dwelling primates. Sanctuary Volunteers also provide environmental education outreach programs to our children and community, teaching respect for the Earth and all living things. Government agencies do not fund this work. We rely wholly on donations from the general public to provide food, medicine, and shelter for the animals. Please join with us in this life-saving work.
