My Name is ʻŌpūkahaʻia
Friday, March 15, 2019; McCoy Studio Theater; 7:30 pm

“My Name is ʻŌpūkahaʻia” is a one-person play written and performed by Moses Goods to commemorate the 200th anniversary of ʻŌpūkahaʻia’s passing. ʻŌpūkahaʻia was the pivotal person in a movement that had profound effects on Hawaiʻi and Hawaiian history. The play, originally commissioned by Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, takes the audience to different scenes from ʻŌpūkahaʻia’s life, including traumatic events from his youth, his arrival and residence in New England, and his conversion to Christianity. As part of the program, Po‘ai Lincoln, assistant curator of programs and volunteer coordinator at the Hawaiian Mission Houses, will provide historical context as well as share mele and ‘oli that relate to the performance.
