Hula O Nā Keiki is a solo hula competition for children ages 5-17. Participants are required to learn, interpret, and perform a Maui chant. The hula competition is just one facet of a three-day event designed to allow participants the opportunity to learn about and nurture Hawaiian cultural values. This gives each student a sense of appreciation for the past and a deeper sense of identity with their Hawaiian ancestors. It is our intent to provide an avenue through which they may express their new understanding and awareness of the Hawaiian language and culture through the art of hula and oli. The competition also advocates for the writing of new mele and the perpetuation of hapa haole music.

The Hawaiian Festival of Arts and Crafts, in conjunction with Hula O Nā Keiki 2019, features unique local artisans. It also provides a venue for participants, their hālau, families, and the community to learn from cultural practitioners through demonstrations, presentations, and workshops. Renowned Hawaiʻi local fashion designer Manaola will open his Pop-up Shop again this year from Friday to Sunday in ‘Ohana Room.
