Aloha and Hola!

I would like to arrange a housing swap between Maui and Lake Chapala, Mexico between Dec. 2019 to June 2020. I would like to locate in upcountry Makawao, Pukalani or Kula.

I first came here for the excellent and affordable dental work and decided to stay. The dental and medical facilities are state of the art with a new hospital recently opening in Lakeside. I am currently residing in a charming 2 bedroom apt in Riberas del Pilar, an old Mexican neighborhood on Lake Chapala, in the state of Jalisco.

45 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport, Lake Chapala is the largest lake in Mexico being 50 miles long and 10 miles wide. At 5,000 ft. elevation it is surrounded by the Sierra Madre mountain range. The Lakeside communities of Ajicjic, San Antonia, Chapala and Riberas all offer the old Mexican colonial style of living mixed in with the modern world.

It is the berry growing capital of Mexico with organic non-gmo farming. Pastured grass fed beef, lamb and dairy, free range chickens and abundance of fruits and vegetables.

There is a large international expat community from the US, Canada and Europe. The local Mexican people are open hearted, welcoming and helpful. Speaking Spanish is not necessary to get by as many locals speak English. Walking along the lake and through the villages is delightful. The bus system is great and easy to get around. There is a lot to do and see and also a lot of peace and quiet. The cost of living is 1/3 or less than the US.
